A 29 year old man has been charged with arson over a million dollar fire at Westfield's Riccarton Mall, in Christchurch, in July.
The fire caused $235,000 of damage to the mall and a further 1.5 million of damage to Farmers Trading Company stock - mainly due to smoke.
Police arrested the former Christchurch resident in Westport.
They say further charges are pending relating to a fire which destroyed two nearby council wheelie bins in an alleyway behind 123 Riccarton Road, and another two fires later the same morning in Hagley Park.
He appeared in the Westport District Court on Tuesday and has been remanded.
Police say more charges are likely.
