Man charged with murder after BoP death

A 22-year-old Matahi Valley man has been charged with the murder of Pomare Mason in the rural Eastern Bay of Plenty town.

Police say the 45-year-old's death follows a family-related incident.

The arrested man is due to appear in the Whakatane District Court on Wednesday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen says a homicide team of 20 Detectives and specialist staff are working on the case.

They are concentrating on the scene which is adjacent to the Omuriwaka Marae at Matahi Valley.

Standen says they are still trying to determine the full nature of events that unfolded late last night .
