  • Man approaching children sparks police warning

Kapiti Police are concerned about the behaviour of a man who has been approaching children over the past few weeks.

Waikanae Community Constable Brett Polglase said there have been numerous reports of a man in a white car approaching children and young people.

"Whilst it is not very common for children or young people to be approached by a stranger acting suspiciously or trying to offer a ride, children should know what to do in this situation," he said.

"That means calling out for help and making sure Police are notified as soon as possible."

The man is described as European, aged in his 40's, around six foot tall, of thin build with dark curly hair and round glasses.

His vehicle is described as a white four door saloon, which could be a Toyota Corolla.

"Whilst we do not want to alarm parents and caregivers, we do want to identify and speak to this person and would like to hear from anyone who may have seen this vehicle or this man in the central Waikanae and beach areas in recent times," Polglase said.

Police have spoken to local school principals to make them aware of their concerns and warn parents and children to be careful.
