Roxburgh man Warren Bruce Johnston has pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife last year.

A bewildered-looking Johnston, 67, appeared before Justice Christine French in the High Court, at Dunedin, at 9.15am today.

He held himself steady with a walking stick as he entered the witness box, with two Corrections officers at his side.

Johnston entered a plea of guilty to the charge of killing his wife, 60 year-old Lesley Ann Johnston, shooting her at their Roxburgh home on March 11, 2011.

French convicted Johnston and remanded him in custody for sentencing on March 9.

She ordered a pre-sentence report, victim impact reports, and a report under the Mentally Impaired Persons' legislation to help the sentencing judge.

As is now the law French issued a warning to Johnston under new Three Strikes law.
