Major response after fire engulfs bowling alley

A fire that broke out in an east Auckland bowling alley this morning is under control.

Twenty fire engines were in attendance at bowling alley Extreme Entertainment in Ti Rakau Drive's Northpark shopping complex.

The blaze broke out in a store room around 5am and at one stage threatened to spread to adjoining buildings.

Neighbouring businesses, including a 24-hour McDonald's, were evacuated.

Fire fighters extinguished the the flames by 7am.

Botany Town Centre, which is near the Northpark complex, has issued a statement saying it was not affected by the fire and is open and trading as usual today.

Six fire engines were also called to specialist drilling shop Pro-Drill on Alpito Place, Pukekohe, by a member of the public around the same time.

Fire safety officers are now investigating the cause of the blazes.
