Tauranga police have wrapped up a major drugs operation, with the arrest of nearly 40 people and the seizure of cannabis and methamphetamine.

Police with warrants have raided properties from Omokoroa through central Tauranga to Te Puke over three days.

Officers seized cannabis plants and tinnies, methamphetamine, and believe they have busted a number of tinnie houses and a suspected meth lab.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner says the operation was part of a wider clampdown on what he calls summer offending.

He warns police will keep the hammer on over the summer months in relation to drugs and property crime, and the substantial amount of alcohol-related offending that occurs.
