Magnitude 6.3 quake off East Cape

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake has struck off the North Island's East Eape

The tremor hit at 6.16pm 140 kilometres north of Te Araroa and was at a depth of 214 kilometres.
      
There have been no reports so far of any damage.

According to GeoNet within 45 minutes more than 1300 people had reported that they had felt the quake.

A magnitude 3.9 quake was recorded at 8.19pm 35 km north of Te Araroa at a depth of 62 km.
