The Auckland City Council's leaky homes bill is mounting.
The Finance Committee will be discussing it at a meeting on Wednesday.
So far, the council has forked out almost $41.5 million to settle 261 claims. But that is only a fraction of the more than 2,100 active claims on council books.
The only bright spot for the council is a court ruling that the duty of care for councils was confined to claims of residents in domestic accommodation.
As a result the council has applied to be struck out of legal proceedings for a number of claims by schools, on the basis that they are commercial buildings and the council does not owe the Ministry of Education a duty of care.
