Hundreds of Kiwis have gathered in London for a charity film event to commemorate the Christchurch earthquake anniversary.

The Ritzy cinema in Brixton today hosted two sold-out screenings of a powerful documentary which follows the lives of those affected by the September, February and June earthquakes and ongoing aftershocks in Canterbury.

ONE News Europe correspondent Garth Bray said 700 Kiwis turned out to see When A City Falls on Wednesday at 6pm and 8pm (7am and 9am today NZ ).

Bray said the event raised at least 12,000 pounds (NZ$22,700) for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

The New Zealand High Commission in London said on its website the event was "a chance for people to come together on the first anniversary of the big Christchurch earthquake to not only remember those who lost their lives, but to look to the future of the city".

The Ngati Ranana London Maori Club, formed in the 1950s, also performed at the event.
