A Kiwi adventurer is preparing to try to row solo across the Tasman Sea.
Shaun Quincey, 25, aims to be only the second person to make the 2,200 kilometre crossing alone, unassisted, and survive.
The first was his father, Colin Quincey, back in 1977.
While teams of kayakers and rowers have made it, all other solo attempts using oars have failed, including the one that killed kayaker Andrew McAuley in 2007.
Shaun's father rowed from the Hokianga to Noosa, but Shaun plans to go the other way.
He will set out from the northern New South Wales town of Coffs Harbour for Taranaki just as soon as the weather is right.
