With it being Easter and school holidays you'd think campgrounds around the country would be bustling, but it's quite the opposite.
Many sites are struggling to attract happy campers.
"With the first weekend of the school holidays it's usually a bumper run, but its not as good as it has been in the past," says Wellington Top 10 Holiday Park's Allen Levien.
Levien's park was fully booked at Easter last year, but on Sunday only 20 of the 130 power sites are booked and there are no reservations for any tents
Leviene is trying to stay positive.
"It's more the recession starting to hit the holiday park industry, in terms of international guests now, because people that come to New Zealand have kind of been planning it for 12 or 18 months."
The Paekakariki Park is only half full and the Holiday Park Association says Taupo has also been quiet.

People might be leaving their bookings a little later for tenting and powered sites because there is always room for that when they are coming through," says Jim Coyle of the Snapper Holiday Park in Napier.
But it's room that will no doubt be passed by as the nights grow colder.
