An Auckland cat survived a 20km ride under a car after being run over, with only a broken leg to show for it.
Gail Tomlinson thought she might have hit a cat in Manukau, but seeing no evidence, she continued on her 20-minute journey to work at Auckland Airport, at speeds of up to 90kmh.
When she arrived, she heard a "meowing" and found Albie the cat tucked in the chassis of her car, behind the number plate.
He was driven another 2km to Mangere SPCA where an x-ray revealed he had a broken leg, and was later returned to his owners Andrew and Lyn Beale.
Albie is now recovering at home after surgery to put two pins in his leg, at a cost of about $2000.
Beale told the New Zealand Herald Albie had shown up on the doorstep five months ago and they named him LB, short for Lost Boy, which morphed into Albie.
"I think now it might be Lucky Bugger."
