Kim Dotcom's bodyguard faced fresh charges when he appeared in
court today - two counts of possession of a pistol for an unlawful
purpose.
Wayne Tempero appeared in the North Shore District Court after
being arrested during a raid on Dotcom's Coatesville mansion last
month.
Dotcom was arrested at the behest of the American FBI who will try
to extradite him on charges of masterminding a vast, multi-million
dollar online copyright violation syndicate they call the "Mega
conspiracy" after his website Megaupload.
Tempero had faced one charge of unlawfully possessing a
semi-automatic shotgun but that charge was going to be withdrawn
and substituted for the new charges.
He did not enter a plea and a defence lawyer sought a four-week
remand as the charges were only laid this morning.
Tempero was remanded on bail until next month.
It's understood he will continue to reside at the multi-million
dollar Dotcom mansion in Coatesville.
Outside court before his first appearance, Tempero said he had
worked for Dotcom for more than two years.
He said he would "of course" fight any charges.
He said he would speak about what happened when police raided the
Dotcom mansion once the case had been through he courts.
"I think the New Zealand public needs to know. That will come
out."
He would not comment on his time working for Dotcom.
He said "no-one" had spoken with Dotcom since his arrest.
Internet piracy-accused Dotcom is in jail having failed to get
bail.
His lawyers appeared in the High Court at Auckland yesterday in a
closed session, understood to be contesting restraining orders made
against Dotcom's assets.
American authorities will attempt to extradite Dotcom on charges
that he breached copyright laws costing copyright owners more than
US$500 million.
