Kaeo fire under control

A gorse fire near Kaeo in the far north has been brought under control on Saturday.

The fire started as a rubbish fire and was believed to cover an area about the size of a football field.

Five houses were evacuated as a precaution.

A helicopter, six fire trucks and the Rural Fire Service was deployed to fight the fire.
