A juror has been discharged from the High Court trial in Wellington of nine people charged with manslaughter following the October 2007 death of Wainuiomata woman Janet Moses.
The reasons for the discharge were reserved until a few days time, Justice Simon France said on Thursday morning.
Giving evidence on Thursday, Moses' doctor Hans Snoek said he had not seen her for about seven months before her death.
Dr Snoek said she did not have any mental illness and was not on any medication, as far as he knew.
He was called to a Wainuiomata house by police on October 12 2007, to confirm her death.
When he examined her, he found she had eye injuries consistent with head trauma or infection, with both upper eyelids having bright red bruising.
She also had an injury consistent with a bite mark to one of her hands and her fingertips were wrinkled.
The nine accused, who have all pleaded not guilty, are John Tahana Rawiri, 49, Georgina Aroha Rawiri, 50, Tanginoa Apanui, 42, Hall Jones Wharepapa, 46, Angela Orupe, 36, Gaylene Tangiohororere Kepa, 44, Aroha Gwendoline Wharepapa, 48, Alfred Hughes Kepa, 48, and Glenys Wright, 52.
A man and woman who have denied with wilful cruelty towards a 14-year-old girl have permanent name suppression.
