Former ONE News presenter Judy Bailey will be the face of World Suicide Prevention Day tomorrow.

Mental Health Foundation chief executive Judi Clements said Bailey would front six webcasts, interviewing suicide prevention researchers, clinicians and service providers on different aspects of suicide prevention.

"We see them (the webcasts) as a great way to share information about the warning signs for and risk factors for suicide, how to care for someone who is at risk, and the experience of loss after death by suicide," Clements said.

The webcasts would be launched at a joint foundation-Suicide Prevention Information New Zealand (Spinz) forum in Auckland tomorrow.

"Aside from the launch of our new webcasts, this forum provides an opportunity for all those with an interest in reducing suicide to come and learn about the latest prevention research," Spinz director Merryn Statham said.

"We will hear about media, hospitals, families and treatments and how they can contribute to lowering the suicide rate in New Zealand."

Samaritans centres nationwide would light a candle tomorrow to show their support for suicide prevention, Samaritans chairman Bruce Wall said.

"We support World Suicide Prevention Day through our vision for a society where fewer people die by suicide. It is vital that there is greater understanding of suicide awareness to reduce stigma and save lives," Wall said.
