Investigations are continuing on Monday morning into the rugby brawl involving two of Auckland's top schools over the weekend.

Up to 100 players and supporters from Kelston Boys High School and Auckland Grammar took to each other, with one player being knocked unconscious.

The fight shocked onlookers and was witnessed by All Black coach Graham Henry, who has taught at both schools.

The two school principals say the incident was appalling.

One of the taunts believed to have started the brawl was a comment from a Auckland Grammar Old Boy.

The supporter is believed to have said "Don't bother explaining it ref, they can't even read."

Racial taunts are also understood to have sparked the brawl.

Kelston Principal Steve Watt says his players reported a number of derogatory comments and chants.

However Auckland Grammar School Headmaster John Morris says racial taunts aren't in their nature.

Morris says he was in the crowd and certainly didn't hear anything offensive.

Morris says the crowd was the major factor in the brawl, saying the big issue to him is the fact spectators, he says most of them from Kelston, ran 50 metres across the football field to get involved.

The Auckland Rugby Union has begun an investigation into the fight.

Meanwhile, there have been revelations of another violent incident at the other semi-final match, between St Peter's and Mount Albert Grammar.

A supporter was hit in the face with a rock, and has now undergone hundreds of dollars worth of dentistry.

A witness says he was standing with his three year old son on his shoulder after the match when he heard a soft thud.

He says a rock came flying into the crowd and hit the man in front of him smack in the face, causing blood to run from his mouth.

Mt Albert Grammar headmaster Dale Burden says the rock was biffed into a crowd of Mount Albert supporters and hit a former student in the face.

Burden is hoping the person who threw the rock or someone who knows who did it, will own up.
