A cyclist remains in a critical condition on Sunday afternoon after a car and a group of up to 20 cyclists collided on a busy Auckland waterfront road.
The cyclist, named by media on Sunday morning as Auckland civil engineer Greg Paterson, was injured on Tamaki Drive, St Heliers, about 8am on Saturday.
An Auckland Hospital spokeswoman says he remains in a critical but stable condition on Sunday afternoon.
Three other cyclists were also injured in the crash.
The Herald on Sunday says one had broken vertebrae in his neck, broken ribs and facial cuts.
A second had a deep gash to the knee and a broken kneecap, while the third had a broken collarbone, shoulder blade and thumb.
Police say the car allegedly ran a stop sign on the intersection of Tamaki Drive and Cliff Road, striking several of the cyclists.
Police are continuing to talk to witnesses and it is understood charges were being considered against the driver, a woman in her early 20s.
The cyclists were part of a recreational cycling group.
Tamaki Drive is popular with cyclists and vehicle traffic. There are cycle and pedestrian lanes on the footpath but both are relatively narrow and cyclists often avoid it because of the numbers of walkers and runners.
