A 51 year-old man is in hospital after being shot in the leg in Auckland last night.
Police said the man was shot at a private address on Hayr Rd in the suburb of Three Kings.
The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance after police arrived at the scene around 10pm.
He is currently undergoing surgery for serious leg injuries suffered during the altercation, police said.
Police said a silver 1996 BMW saloon, registration BZL461, was stolen from outside the address shortly after the shooting.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Marcia Murray asked for the public to contact police if they saw the stolen BMW after 10pm when the man was shot.
He said a scene examination is underway at the address.
"We have spoken with one other person who was with the victim at the time of the shooting and he's given us his version of events.
"Anyone who knows who was responsible for last night's shooting or who has information relating to it or the vehicle, should contact police and is strongly advised not to approach the offenders directly as they are clearly armed and dangerous."
