A major hitch has led to an auction of 60 Ralph Hotere's paintings scheduled for Auckland on Thursday night to be called off.
The paintings were being sold by Wellington woman Annette Ferguson who says she was gifted them in 1968.
But auctioneer Ben Plumbly says he has been contacted by lawyers for Hotere disputing ownership.
Plumbly says as a result they don't want to proceed and they have postponed the auction indefinitely.
