Christchurch police say they are now treating a serious assault in Linwood three weeks ago as a homicide, following the victim's death.
The victim has been named as Michelle Mary Lawrence, aged 41, of Christchurch.
She died late last night at Christchurch Hospital, where she had been since the incident that's believed to have occurred before 1am on June 10.
A post-mortem examination is expected tomorrow.
A 52-year old Christchurch man, Timothy Joseph Foley, has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and is due to reappear in court on Tuesday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Corrie Parnell said the incident is now being treated as a homicide, and it is expected additional charges will be laid.
In a statement thanking hospital staff, Victim Support and Christchurch Police, the Lawrence family said Michelle was much loved, a wonderful mother, Nana, daughter, granddaughter, sister and aunty who loved life and lived it to the fullest.
"She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her," the family statement said.
