Auckland police have launched a homicide investigation into the death of a man who fell from a balcony on Wednesday night.

Paul Stewart Kingi, 57, of Glen Innes in the eastern suburbs, was admitted to Auckland Hospital and died on Thursday night.

He suffered head injuries and broken bones in the fall about 6.45pm in the suburb of Point England, 14km southeast of downtown Auckland.

A post-mortem examination revealed Kingi died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Glen Innes men aged 64 and 37 have been charged with assault and appeared in the Auckland District Court yesterday.

They were remanded on bail without plea until March 25.

Police will decide whether further charges are to be laid once their investigation is complete, in a week's time.
