Inmate death at Paremoremo Prison

Police are investigating the death of an inmate at Paremoremo Prison overnight.

The identity of the dead man has not been officially disclosed, but ONE News has been told it is a very high profile prisoner.

The man's lawyer will neither confirm nor deny the report at this stage.

Police say the prisoner's next of kin have to be notified before his name is released.
