Surface flooding from heavy rain in Wellington has caused several slips around the city and disruptions to train services this morning.

Tranz Metro spokesperson Jenni Austin said bus services had been organised to replace trains that could not run due to slips covering the tracks, however debris was expected to be cleared shortly.

The band of rain caused surface flooding on roads in the CBD and in suburbs including Kilbirnie, Curtis Street, Karori, Hataitai and Miramar.

Police urged motorists to drive with caution and watch out for ponding water.
