Heavy rain has caused delays and flooding on State Highway 1 north of Wellington but holidaymakers are refusing to let the bad weather dampen their spirits.
While other parts of the country have been soaking up the sunshine the lower North Island has simply been soaking.
Heavy rain overnight and on Tuesday morning flooded back roads and was axle deep on State Highway 1.
The flooding caused traffic jams stretching back several kilometres. But it is not just roadways bearing the brunt, as waterways like the Otaki River have been affected, too.
The Metservice say 28mm of rain fell in the area on Tuesday morning and is now warning holidaymakers around Eketahuna and Havelock North to expect overnight gales which could affect driving and damage trees and power-lines.
