Canterbury farmers are counting the cost from the hail storm that interrupted the Black Caps one-dayer in Christchurch at the weekend.
Crops on several farms were destroyed, with a damage bill in excess of $1 million.
"It's very susceptible at the moment because the grain's full and therefore anything that hits it that's quite hard is just going to shatter it off," says John Madeley, a wheat farmer.
The electrical storm swept through the region, bringing heavy rain and large hail stones.
