Government House is hoping to give Prince William a relaxing first night in the country.

His Royal Highness touches down in Auckland on Sunday.

Officially he is here to open the Supreme Court, but he is making the most of his three days in the country with a schedule jam packed with formal duties and even a spot of sailing.

There will also be a hangi at Government house.

Spokesman Antony Paltridge says the actual laying down of the hangi has been contracted out to Auckland Maori who specialise in the meal.

Musicians Dave Dobbyn and Che-Fu will be playing during the evening.
