Good Sort Michael Drake has been teaching at Taupo's Nui A Tia College for 43 years.
Drake admires loyalty and endurance, and has been educating three generations of children at the college.
He has also given his money and time to the SPCA, dipping into his own pocket for cats to be spayed.
And for four decades Drake has played the organ at St Andrews Church.
"If you have a skill you really owe it to the community to do something about it, and to use that skill in the community," said Drake.
For 42 years Drake has played for church services, weddings and funerals and in 2002 he played for the Queen.
He also helped form the Taupo Coastguard 25 years ago, and wrote a book to help boaties and emergency services navigate the lake.
"I value endurance and loyalty," he said. "I'm not one of these people who does a thing for a few years and then throws it aside and tries something else."

Hey! We thought you might be interested in the aftersocks projects that will raise money for the Chch Mayoral Fund. The idea came from two Cantabrian sisters called Justine and Jo Ottey. Check out the website www.aftersocks.co.nz from the 20th June or www.facebook.com/aftersocks.

Tim is my father and i'd just like to say that i'm proud of what he does bringing happiness to others lives and yet still finds time to talk and see his grandchildren. For a man who's had it rough the last 2-3 years it hasn't slowed him down and he still has time for everyone. Good on you dad/Pop!

The piece about Mark Granthams brought tears to my eyes. What an inspirational young man. Has made me look at myself and realise what little I do for the wider community. Thanks Mark :)
