Claire Sawyers has always been a giver - she gave some of her first paycheck to the SPCA.
Claire is the founder of a website bringing the generous and the needy together.
"The DonateNZ concept is a simple one, if you have something to give, they will help find a home for it," says Claire.
Ironically it was at the place where you throw stuff away that Claire had her moment of clarity.
"I had stacks of magazines hanging around the house and I walked out to the bin and I opened the bin and thought I shouldn't really be putting them in here, it's a waste, they are in pristine condition, surely someone should use these but how do I find someone who wants them," says Claire.
At DonateNZ, you can donate anything, even your time, and if you are a charity or a school you can log on and take what you want. It's like a donating dating service.
Now it's Claire's parents doing the giving as they have re-mortgaged to foot the bill while DonateNZ gets off the ground.
"It was a leap of faith but the idea and concept of donate is incredible, we can all do something it doesn't hurt doesn't take anything to do," says Jane Sawyers, Claire's mother.
Claire says DonateNZ needs outside funding and her days are now spent applying for public money.
"I'll be here to drive it, I just need to be able to eat and I will work on this forever, it makes people happy, it makes me happy and I know I am making a positive differece to the community and the environment," says Claire.

Hey! We thought you might be interested in the aftersocks projects that will raise money for the Chch Mayoral Fund. The idea came from two Cantabrian sisters called Justine and Jo Ottey. Check out the website www.aftersocks.co.nz from the 20th June or www.facebook.com/aftersocks.

Tim is my father and i'd just like to say that i'm proud of what he does bringing happiness to others lives and yet still finds time to talk and see his grandchildren. For a man who's had it rough the last 2-3 years it hasn't slowed him down and he still has time for everyone. Good on you dad/Pop!

The piece about Mark Granthams brought tears to my eyes. What an inspirational young man. Has made me look at myself and realise what little I do for the wider community. Thanks Mark :)
