A German tourist who was killed in a collision with a truck as she cycled along State Highway 3 near Bulls on Tuesday has been named.

She was Mia Susanne Pusch, aged 19 from Fulda in Germany.

Police understand that Pusch arrived in New Zealand in October and was alone.

Police say it is not known at this stage where in New Zealand she had been or whether she had been cycling during the whole of her visit.

The German Embassy has assisted police in locating and notifying he family who are said to be distraught.

The cause of the crash, which happened around 11.50am in a passing zone on SH3, is still under investigation.

Police say they still want to hear from any motorists who were on the stretch of road between Bulls and Lake Alice on Tuesday, who saw either Pusch on her bike or the yellow truck and trailer involved in the collision.

Any information should be passed to Marton Police.
