Four children and one adult were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire in a garage on Friday night.
Firefighters say a double garage in Tokoroa with living accommodation at the back was completely gutted.
The Fire Service is investigating the blaze.
Homes evacuated due to gas leak
And several roads in Tokoroa were cordoned off while gas workers dealt with a ruptured gas main on Saturday morning.
Residents in up to 200 homes were evacuated as a precaution although a steady breeze effectively dispersed the escaping gas.
The leak is believed to have been caused by workmen.
