Christchurch police have released video footage of an arsonist
in action lighting a fire at a shopping mall.
They are hoping the public will help them find the man who set fire
to rubbish bins outside the Westfield Shopping Mall in Riccarton
early Friday morning.
Security cameras filmed him and police say the man is likely
European, aged between 18 and 25 years.
The footage shows him lighting one fire which goes out, so he
returns for another go.
The mall opened for the day as usual.
Like police mall management is hoping someone will turn the fire
starter in.
The fire caused water and smoke damage to the Farmers store in
the mall.
Fire crews were also called to several minor fires near Hagley
Park.
