An elderly man has been injured after a dinghy became airborne in Nelson today.
Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter said it was called to Torrent Bay in the Abel Tasman National Park after a 14 foot alloy dinghy with an outboard motor became airborne in high winds and struck a 71-year-old man from Takaka.
The dinghy had been on the beach, it said.
The man suffered potentially serious head injuries.
Emergency services said the man was cared for at the scene by bystanders before being transported to Nelson Hospital by helicopter.
