Police have arrested a fifth man in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Nelson on Saturday night.
The man was arrested on Sunday afternoon after four other men men were earlier taken into custody.
A 22-year-old man was shot dead during a confrontation between two groups of men in Branford Park, near the city's centre, about 6pm.
The five accused face charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful assembly.
One of them had been charged with murder, Detective Inspector John Winter, of Nelson police, said on Sunday night.
"These are initial charges - they may not be the final charges that they face."
The five men were being held in custody to appear in Nelson District Court on Monday.
Police had also recovered the firearm that was used and found a vehicle the men had used to leave the scene, Winter said.
The fight, involving about 12 people, started over a woman who "was known to both groups", he said.
"There had been a level of tension over the past few months that was escalating in intensity."
A baseball bat was also involved in the fight and another man suffered moderate head injuries.
Police made the first four arrests at a Richmond house about 11pm on Saturday.
Officers are not looking for anyone else at this stage, but still wanted to hear from witnesses, Winter said.
Forensic examiners were at the scene on Sunday.
