Firefighters have been dampening down hotspots at a timber mill in Ohinewai north of Huntly on Saturday morning.
Fire service spokesman Scott Osmond says Saturday morning's fire started in one of the large buildings at the Max Birt Sawmill.
He says the building has been destroyed but they have managed to stop the fire spreading to other buildings nearby.
At the height of the fire, 11 fire tenders, support vehicles and 50 firemen were in attendance. They were called about 4.15am to the mill to find the building burning strongly.
No one is believed to have been in the building and no injuries have been reported.
Fire Safety officers are examining the cause of the blaze.
