Auckland fire services battled a massive blaze at a boat repair shed in west Auckland.

ONE News understands a fire-fighter has been injured and is at Waitakere Hospital.

The fire began at the shed on Rabone St, near Railside Ave, in the west Auckland suburb of Henderson, just south of the Henderson shopping mall.

Reports say thick black smoke could be seen from the central city and from the North Western Motorway.

Around 20 fire appliances and more than 70 fire-fighters were required to deal with the blaze.

Police say the fire service has the blaze under control, even though there is diesel and other chemicals inside the shed.

Fire safety investigators are probing the cause of the fire.

The ONE News team has been at the scene and will have full coverage at 6pm.
