Fire destroys truck and trailer

A fire has destroyed a truck-and-trailer unit on State Highway 1 near Plimmerton, north of Wellington.

Fire Service acting shift manager Craig Dally said the fire started on the truck shortly before 5.30am.

The truck had been southbound on the highway, opposite the weigh station at Plimmerton.

It was well ablaze, through the trailer and cab, when the fire service arrived.

It was carrying general freight and had no hazardous substances.

The lanFire destroys truck and trailere was cleared by 6.40am.

The burnt-out truck is now in the southbound truck lay-by lane.

The cause of the fire was not yet known.
