Fiji police will decide on Monday whether to lay criminal charges against former All Black Robin Brooke, following allegations he groped a 15-year-old girl then attacked a 17-year-old boy who tried to intervene.
Brooke is the subject of a police investigation following the
allegations.
The incident is claimed to have occurred at a resort in Fiji on New
Year's Eve during celebrations.
It's claimed Brooke, who played 60 games for the All Blacks, got too friendly with the girl, while she was relaxing with her friends by a pool.
Jordan Whitaker tried to intervene but was attacked by Brooke.
"All of a sudden this guy comes up and grabs her right in the arse and starts feeling her up," says Whitaker.
"I said, 'Hey mate, piss off. What do you think you are doing?' At this point of time I stood up, he came right up into my face and said 'You had better sit down or I'm going to knock you out'."
Whitaker alleges Brooke then threw him on the deck chairs and jumped on him.
One of the girl's who witnessed the event unfolding told her father about the incident. Phillip Buckleton, who owns a hotel in Fiji, says he contacted the Fijian police and told them what happened but says he did not like their response.
"And the vibe we got was just forget the whole thing, he wants to meet with everyone and offer compensation and of course the young girl contacted her parents in New Zealand and they said no way, this guy has to be brought to task for his unacceptable behaviour. So their line was we want him to be charged...All Blacks are treated like gods in Fiji, Fiji is a rugby man nation and they would be bending over backwards to assist him," Buckleton says.
ONE News has tried to contact Brooke or his agent Sara Tetro, but neither are willing to talk to the media. ONE News was able to speak to the mother of the 15-year-old alleged to have been assaulted by Brooke.
She says her daughter is back in New Zealand and doing okay and says what the family really want is for Brooke to front up and talk to them about what happened to their daughter.
Fiji police say on Monday, they will be able to say if the complaint against Brooke will become criminal charges.
