The Broadbent family - Source: ONE News
There are fears more Kiwis could be expelled from Morocco for their Christian beliefs, after a New Zealand family was told to leave on Tuesday night.
Chris Broadbent, along with his wife and two children, arrived in Spain late Tuesday after being told by officials they had to leave.
For the last year and a half the family has been working at a Christian orphanage in the Middle Atlas mountains.
Broadbent says they were given an hour to gather their things before police escorted them to the ferry.
He says up until Tuesday they had never experienced any problems.
The family is struggling to understand the change in heart.
They and the rest of the staff were forced to leave with officials saying their religious views were no longer acceptable.
Broadbent says they are in shock as the centre has been operating for 10 years without any issues.
He says they are not missionaries, they are just parents who were looking after a group of children.
They now holds grave fears for the orphans they have been forced to leave behind.
Broadbent says they have left behind 33 children who he came to love like his own.
He says that includes one boy who is severely handicapped who will now probably be dumped in a cot at one of the state run institutions.
