A man has died following a two car collision on State Highway One north of Auckland.
The road has been closed just south of the Brynderwyn Hills, after a van heading south crashed into another vehicle heading north.
The deceased was a passenger in the van. Other people in the vehicles suffered moderate injuries and have been taken to Whangarei Hospital.
Both lanes of the highway have been closed with diversions set up along SH12 through Paparoa and Oakleigh, while southbound travellers are being diverted through Waipu and Mangawhai.
Steve Mutton from the NZTA said the road is expected to be closed for some time and drivers should allow extra time for their journeys.
