Fatal accident south of Auckland

One person has died in an accident in Pokeno, south of Auckland.

ONE News understands a truck and car crashed leaving one occupant dead just after 8pm.

Police are on the scene as well as Fire and Ambulance.

There are diversions in place on SH1 north and south of Pokeno, and at the end of SH2 preventing traffic going north.

The northbound on ramp at Helenslee Road is closed.

All vehicles are being diverted north via Tuakau on the Whangarata Road.

Motorists are advised to delay trips north on SH1.
