Auckland's Boxing Day races at the Ellerslie Racecourse attracted thousands of people, all frocked up for a day in the sun.

The Fashion in the Field event had a record number of participants; all trying to find that something that gives them the edge.

It is now the largest outdoor fashion event in the country, and is part of the Christmas Carnival racing season.

"It's our biggest day on the calendar and it's an Auckland tradition that people get along here enjoy what is a fantastic tradition," says Ellerslie Chief Executive Chris Weaver.

Olivia Moore won the under-25 category. The win entitles her to a year's lease on a flash new Mercedes, as well as new clothes, jewellery and dinner at Mollies Boutique Hotel in Ponsonby.

Moore's sister last year won the VIVA Supreme Award.

Twenty-five thousand people packed the Ellerslie course.

In the end, Vosne Romanee won, finishing first ahead of Red Ruler and Tell A Tale.
