The family of Auckland man George Harris is gutted police officer Clinton Hill has been found not guilty of his manslaughter.
A High Court jury has been unable to reach a verdict on two other charges Hill faces, of assault and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The Crown alleges Hill assaulted Harris in the back of a police car before he fled and ran into the path of an oncoming truck.
Melanie Joyce says her family is shocked at the not guilty verdict.
She says had witnesses told the truth in the first place and not gone back on earlier statements, she is sure it would have been a different outcome.
Joyce also says it has been a tough five years for her family, not least because the trial involved a police officer.
She say the public holds the police in high regard and her family still does, even though it lost faith for a while and they do hold no grudge.
