The jury has retired to consider its verdict at the Janet Moses trial in Wellington.

Eight family members are on trial for her manslaughter after she died during a curse lifting ceremony in 2007.

Two others face charges of cruelty to a child in their care.

In summing up, Justice Simon France told the jury key issues they must consider are whether Moses consented to the ritual and whether the accused truly believed she had.

France said the other issue is around participation and which of the accused, if any, were present at the time of her death or contributed to it.
