A prisoner convicted for a family violence assault who escaped from police custody earlier this month has been arrested in New Plymouth today.
Mana Tangitutu, 27, was handed a four-month prison sentence for assaulting a female on October 3 when he escaped from a court cell.
Search warrants were issued in Kawerau and Opotiki to try and locate Tangitutu, who has distinctive full-facial tattoos featuring three 'Ms' on his forehead and 'East Coast mongrel' across his nose and upper lip.
Police arrested Tangitutu this morning without incident.
He will appear in New Plymouth District Court today charged with escaping custody.
