A jury in Christchurch has been told Sophie Elliott was known among Clayton Weatherston's friends as his "psycho girlfriend".
Weatherston is on trial for the murder of his 22-year-old ex girlfriend and is defending the charge, claiming he was provoked.
A university acquaintance of Weatherston, Sarah Forbes, gave evidence of a two hour conversation she had with the accused, the day before the killing.
She says Weatherston talked of the troubles in the relationship and that he told her he felt Elliott had a borderline personality disorder and that she was controlling.
On Wednesday, the court also heard that just days after killing her, Weatherston wrote a letter saying Elliott was a horrible person.
An ex-girlfriend read from the letter in court, which said "I am also sorry such a horrible person has been glorified in the media."
The letter was dated just five days after Elliott's death.
Weatherston's ex-girlfriend also told the jury about his desire to keep his public image very solid and controlled and that he had an obsession with his appearance.
