An elderly woman was robbed and threatened with what's believed to be a gun, while walking home in Auckland's North Shore.
The 77-year-old was walking along Beach Road in Browns Bay yesterday morning when she was approached by a man who demanded her hand-bag.
When she refused, the offender threatened her with a metal object wrapped in black cloth that police say appeared to be a gun.
"The offender ripped the victim's bag from her shoulder," said Detective Darren Attwood.
"He then ran back across Beach Road and got into the passenger's side of a waiting vehicle."
The red ute then drove north in the direction of Torbay.
The victim was shaken but unharmed, and is receiving assistance from Victim Support.
Police have described the offender as a Caucasian male in his early 20s of slim build, and are calling for any witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with information can call 09 477 5031 or Crime Stoppers 0800 555 111.
