Elderly woman killed in Christchurch house fire

An elderly woman has been killed in a house fire in the Christchurch suburb of Spreydon.

The Fire Service was called to the blaze just before 6pm and found the house well alight.

They were unable to save the female occupant.

The fire appears to have started in the kitchen and there was no smoke alarm in the house.

Police and the fire service are investigating the blaze.
