Police are seeking three men who terrorised an elderly couple during a robbery in their home in the early hours of this morning.
Lower Hutt police said that three balaclava-clad men, armed with baseball bats, broke into the couple's Wainuiomata home, tied them up, and stole a small safe containing cash.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton says that the trio broke into the couple's Hine Street home, just before 5am.
According to police, a woman, in her 60s, was assaulted and suffered minor injuries. She was treated by a doctor and is now recovering.
The woman's partner, in his 70s, later managed to get free and call police.
The couple had been left shaken by their ordeal, and were helping police with their enquiries.
"We're appealing for anyone who may have seen vehicles or people acting suspiciously in Hine Street to come forward.
"We are determined to catch whoever is responsible for this cowardly act, which was clearly targeted at an older couple in their home," said Thornton.
