Education standards rushed, says NZEI

A union representing New Zealand school teachers says the government is rushing through national standards at the expense of children's education.

From next year, New Zealand primary and intermediate schools will be given new specific targets for students to meet in reading, writing and mathematics.
 
But the New Zealand Educational Institute is demanding the scheme be road-tested before it's rolled out, or abandoned altogether.
 
NZEI says children's learning is too important to experiment with.
